“I committed to the Invested Mama concept; shed the fear that had been holding me back, and within weeks everything began to change. Most importantly, my vision is now crystal clear and I finally feel like I’m doing what I was put here to do.”
Jennifer and I began working together around the middle of March 2013 (Wow…has it really only been 10 months!?). I’m almost 40 years old (yikes!) and I have been gainfully employed in my industry for nearly 14 years. But, truthfully, I don’t think I really began my career until Jennifer and I began this process. The shift has been truly magical. I went from busily “doing” to strategically “progressing.” I’ve gone from striving for perfection in pursuit of others approval, to striving for excellence because I believe that I have value and a voice that needs to be heard. As Jennifer says, “It’s never just about the marketing.” How true.
As a financial advisor, I was trying to be all things to all people. I was being pulled in many different directions, both by a diverse group of clients and by several of my peers who thought they knew what was best for my future. I was a perpetual pleaser and I was afraid to say “no” to anyone or anything. Furthermore, I had fooled myself into believing that I could not afford to focus on any one type of client, but rather that the only way to build a successful financial planning practice was to take on any new client that came my way.
Jennifer encouraged me to think about the clients I truly enjoyed working with and why those particular clients gave me such satisfaction. She made me take stock of my strengths as well as my weaknesses and identify where my time was being wasted and what I was doing to create that reality. She has an amazing way of asking the questions that lead to true insight, letting you arrive at the answers that she probably already could see herself. She can be sneaky like that! She also forces you to challenge your assumptions and question why things have to be the way they are.
Successful people always say, “Live your passion.” The trouble with that little piece of advice is that no one ever tells you just how to go about doing it. Jennifer provided the instructions for me. Once she helped shine a light on a better way to move forward, it was impossible not to get excited about going down that road. Once I got clear about who I wanted to serve and how I was going to serve them, then I just had to get out of my own way.
I committed to the Invested Mama concept; shed the fear that had been holding me back, and within weeks everything began to change. Not only did I start attracting more of my ideal clients, but I was also approached to write a weekly article for our local newspaper on financial concepts. I’m about to launch a website and a weekly Invested Mama Minute series of online videos. My Facebook page has nearly hit 300 loyal fans and I have been invited more than once to give a keynote address on getting R.E.A.L. with your money. Most importantly, my vision is now crystal clear and I finally feel like I’m doing what I was put here to do.
Having Jennifer’s guidance, support and fearless attitude has been the difference between simply continuing to be busy and building a business that I am proud of each and every day. There is no doubt in my mind that I would be starting 2014 in a totally different place in both my life and in my business without the work we have done together. She has pushed me out of me comfort zone, held me accountable to my own potential and, for that, I am eternally grateful. And like she says, “We are really just getting started.” How awesome is that?
