The other day I was sitting in my kitchen when I happened to look over at my bookshelf. Peeking out was a book that I hadn't looked at in awhile, so I picked it up and went through it.
While I was looking through it I thought about how grateful I was that I didn't quit my business when it was hard.
If I had, this book wouldn't exist.
The title of my book is ‘South America 2014 Adventures in Ecuador and Peru’ because it holds all the pictures from my first digital nomad trip, where I ran my business from my laptop, for three years.
I did two years in South America and one year in California, before I moved to Toronto.
Machu Picchu was on my vision board, for years. I wouldn't have been able to go or have this book filled with great memories, if I had quit my business when it got tough.
There were a lot of times I wanted to quit. I think deep down I knew I didn’t want to, but I do remember sometimes thinking... ‘maybe my life would be easier if I just went and got a job.’
The truth is however, I don't think my life would have been easier because when you're an entrepreneur and you have something calling you, if you're not progressing towards it you don't feel like yourself.
That's why it's so important to follow your dreams.
When you have a vision, you have to move towards it because that's the real you calling you forward.
Now, I know the whole follow your dreams and it will happen shtick sounds cheesy BUT it's TRUE.
Remember: if things are hard right now, if you’re frustrated and asking yourself if it's all worth it...
It's worth it. Don't quit.
That's not to say that there won't be times when you may need to pivot, get help or try new things.
There are many times in my business that I pivoted, got help and changed niches but ultimately, it's because I didn't quit that I have this amazing book filled with memories.
During that trip I was able visit the incredible Galapagos Islands in Ecuador with my brother. I saw purple butterflies in real life for the first time. I lived in a whimsical castle on a hill near the Amazon rainsforest (see the video), climbed the steps of Machu Picchu, learned basic Spanish and met so many amazing people along the way.
This trip alone was worth the effort.
If you needed a reminder to keep going, this is it!
You can do this.
When you have a dream in your heart, that's calling you, you are fully capable of making it happen.
Sometimes it can take a little longer than you thought it would but don't give up.
Whatever's on your vision board, trips you want to take, impacts you want to make, you can make it happen.
If you ever need help, reach out and get it. Because this is your one life to build something unique and meaningful to you and to those whose lives you will impact. And that's worth figuring it out for.
To your Joyous Journey,
