How To Create Powerful Connections With Your Clients

This is a really important topic because the more powerful connection you can create with your clients, the better position you will be in to help influence change in their lives and therefore allow them to get results. This helps them and your business growth because nothing is better for your business success than happy clients who have gotten results.

Creating powerful connections with clients is a topic that is close to my heart because I have worked on it over the years and have created great connections with my own clients.

Here are three ways to create a powerful connection with your clients:

1. Be Present & Listen

I know, I know, I can hear you now… “Jennifer, this IS what coaching is!”… but just hear me out on this one, okay?

Sometimes when we are with our clients they may say something that sparks something in us, some type of wisdom we want to impart or a story we want to share. However, I want to encourage you to go back to listening. Trust that whatever you wanted to say will come up at the right time.

In this digital age where everyone is attached to their phone and attention spans are at an all time low, presence is a currency in and of itself.

When you can really hold sacred space for someone and be present with them, it creates a trust that will allow that person to feel safe and therefore open up more of themselves which allows more breakthroughs and change happen in that space of truth.

2. Surprise Them!

As you get to know your clients, surprise them with things or gestures. One of my favourite things to do for clients and customers is to write handwritten cards. I love writing cards! It’s a a great way to add a personal touch on it's own or with something. There are lots of things you can put on a card such as...

  • I’m so glad we are working together
  • Congrats on the recent breakthrough
  • Good luck
  • A quote that they love

As long as it is something that comes from your heart to theirs to remind them that you care about them and want them to succeed, you are good to go!

This costs virtually nothing, just some postage. You can even have your own branded cards or stationary that you send things out on or buy packages of lovely cards.

As well, sending small gifts like journals, a book you know they will enjoy or a small trinket that has meaning to them is a great idea. It could even be something you already have in your home but you feel you want to share it with them.

Perhaps you find an article in a magazine or something online that you know they will love. Send it over. They will be so grateful.

3. Support Them Above Your Scheduled Time

As you know in coaching, you are often dealing with emotions. People are breaking through limiting beliefs and doing ‘the work’ which can be full of emotional highs and lows (even in business coaching… actually, especially in business coaching).

That can be tough work sometimes.

A way to support them is to just pick up the phone and give them a quick call if you know they need it. Sometimes it is 5 to 10 minutes or even a little longer if necessary. It shows your commitment to their success. They feel important and like they matter.

Sometimes, sharing their social media is appreciated (especially if your clients are running businesses) or even if you comment on or like their content, as a supportive person. Perhaps they are local and you can watch them in something or some how show up for them. Sending flowers works too.

As you can see the biggest thing that it takes is to be proactively thoughtful in the lives of your clients. When you do this, they will feel your love and presence which will enable them to feel more comfortable with you which will then allow for a more open space in your coaching which allows the truth to emerge more easily. This of course, leads to epic results.

Now, I would love to hear from you. What are the things that you do that enable you to create a powerful connection with your clients?

Happy Connecting,

@terrie you still have the card?! Yay!! I'm so happy to hear that. As well, I'm not surprised your clients have that feedback with that practice. Presence is such an amazing skill and gift to give to another. Keep rockin it girl!!

Something you don't know. I have the card you sent me last year kept in my cash drawer in the salon. Every time I open the cash drawer I see it. I should move it to my computer now.
And 2.....when I'm with my clients I take no notes. I say very little. They talk. I listen. What we call presence. In that listening and being available and holding that space. Is where the real powerful connection is allowed to come through. If I'm chattering and gabbing? It's GF time and I'm not doing my job. Because I'm in my head and not in my heart space. Thus I'm not grounded in my work. This also why when I do speak & offer an alternative way of thinkibg/being.....clients will say "OMG I never thought of it that way before."
