Why I cashed out ALL of my RRSPs to Invest in my Business

6 years ago I cashed out all of my RRSP’s. Here's why:

While in MBA school back in 2007 I received a mentor through the mentorship program. I had no idea that this one woman was going to change the course of my life (in many ways).

She encouraged me to go to an event called, ‘The Power Within’. It was a little over $120, which at the time seemed like a lot because I was a student, but I decided to take the chance and go anyways. That day there were 6 speakers and I was most excited about the last one because I had heard of him and something in my gut told me that he had a message for me.

Then, it happened.

As I was standing in a sea of 4,000 people, the place went up like a rock concert. A man with a presence larger than life stood before me jumping up and down. That man, was Tony Robbins.

That was the moment I knew my destiny: I was put on the planet to uplift others.

After that moment, I was hooked on the self development industry and it lead me into a spiral of incredible experiences that have gotten me to where I am today.

This is also when I was about to start investing more than I ever dreamed possible into myself.

A little over a year later, I was in New Jersey, NY, at Tony’s, Unleash The Power Within event (UPW). This is his intro 4-Day event. If you have never been, I HIGHLY recommend it!

During that event he talked about his other programs and specifically, Mastery University. Mastery University is 4 courses in total with 1-on-1 coaching from a Tony Robbins coach. When he talked about what Mastery University could do for you, I was hooked. I KNEW I had to do it. The problem? It was $10,000US! Now, where was I going to get that?

At that time, the Canadian dollar was pretty much on par with the US dollar so I marched up to that table, put down my credit card and signed up.

I went home, wrote my financial advisor and asked for my RRSP’s back. The irony of that action was that I had just put those RRSP's in place less about a year earlier!

I knew in my heart that I was a much better investment and would get an extremely higher rate of return than my RRSPs ever would.

Since that day back in early 2008 I have spent upwards of $75,000 on my personal and professional education (including coaching, masterminds, conferences, books, audio’s, courses, etc.) That does not include the formal education I received from my 2 degrees).

The reason I invest so much in myself is because I am on a mission to help 1 Million people find and live their passions and I can only make that dream happen if I continue to learn more, be more and continually expand myself to the next level. That happens when you invest in yourself. It happens when you surround yourself with people who are further along the path than you.

So everyday, I show up and do the work getting busy helping coaches learn the business side of their business so they can be catalysts for change they came to be.

I tell you this story because often times I talk to coaches about wanting to invest in themselves whether it is coaching, to go to a program, event or whatever… and they let money get in the way.

Here’s what I have learned over the years: You always get your MUSTS.

(It was a MUST for me to create a business that would allow me to travel the world. This is me in South America this year where I ran my business from the road for 5 months. {Last year, it was 6 months!})

Why I Cashed Out ALL Of My RRSPs Www .jennifer -trask .comrrsp

I originally learned this from Tony Robbins. But once I started paying attention, I really noticed it and saw it for myself. In the past, I’ve heard people say, "I really want to invest in my business but I just can’t afford it."

→ Yet, a month later they are on a vacation in the tropics.

No joke, I’ve seen this. ←

The thing is, most of the time, people CAN afford it, they just choose to spend their money elsewhere. Even when they don’t have the money right at that second, if someone decides that they want to invest in themselves, they will FIND the money. Money will always show up when the desire is strong enough.

Think about it:  I bet you can remember a time when you weren't sure how you were going to get the money for something but you wanted it so bad, that it showed up.

Business owners in all industries figure out how to get money for what they need.

Because it is September and you might be looking at investing in yourself with a coach, a program or a conference, I want to encourage you to go for it. If you REALLY want it, find the money. Don’t ever let money (a resource) stop you from getting what you need to go to the next level. You just need to get resourceful.***

Put it out to the universe what you want and let it come to you. Often times you might realize that you already have it, you are just using it in a different way (like going on vacation). Or, you will manifest the money by:

  • selling things;
  • getting new clients;
  • doing a promotion;
  • taking a second job;
  • borrowing from family;
  • getting a line of credit;
  • applying for funding;
  • getting an investor;
  • redirecting your spending;
  • saving for it!

(I have done many of these things to make money when there wasn’t ‘enough’).

When you have a dream that pulls you forward, nothing can stop you. You are a force not to be reckoned with.

Do whatever you have to do and let your intuition be your guide.

If you are ready to take your business to the next level do whatever it takes to make that happen.

You are worth it.

P.S. What was the time that you manifested the money you needed? Tell me in the comments. I'd love to hear! :)

***This post is in no way suggesting that cashing out your RRSP's or any other unusual tactic is what is right for you. What is right for you is what is right for you and only you will know what that is. There is always risk involved when you do something like I did but for me, it was a risk worth taking. Only you can decide what is best for you.

The intention behind this post is to remind you that there is ALWAYS a way when you are fully committed. As the creator of your reality you have the power to get creative, expand your means and make things happen!***
